Bernalda is an old little town, 13.000 inhabitants, with a Medieval Castle.
It also has many churches:
- The Main church, "la Chiesa Madre", is in front of the Castle;
- The Monastery, next to the City Hall, faces a big public garden;
- Saints Cosmo and Damian's Church is the most modern town church.
Bernalda has been linked to Metaponto for centuries. In 1497 the Spanish king, Frederick from Aragona donated the town to on of his feudatories, Bernaudo De Bernaudo. The name "Bernalda" derives from this feudatory's name.
The town has got a lot of pubs, bars and a big avenue, called "Corso Umberto".
Our farm holiday is in a strategic position for going on a tour to Matera, Metaponto, the Pollino National Park (the biggest Italian Park). Alberobello and its popular trulli, Fasano's Zoo are not far from our farm holidays, too.
